High hopes for sale of Cashel hotel.

The landmark hotel has been officially put on the market today with a guide selling price of €2.25 million.

The Cashel Palace Hotel is set on 25 acres at the foot of the Rock of Cashel..

Built in 1730 for the Archbishop of Cashel, the Queen Anne style building opened as a hotel in 1962 and has housed several high-profile guests including Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor, Ronald Reagan and Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis.

Owned by Patrick and Susan Murphy, the hotel closed its doors last December with the loss of 32 jobs due to difficult trading conditions.

CBRE and PJ Broderick Auctioneers have now been appointed to sell the property – John Hughes of CBRE expects it to garner significant interest from national and international bidders.

The four star hotel includes 19 bedrooms and 2 self-contained suites while the lands surround the Rock of Cashel, one of the largest tourist attractions in the country.

Also included in the sale are fishing rights to 6 kilometres of the Rivers Suir and Aherlow.

Local Independent Councillor Tom Wood is hopeful a buyer can be found that will ensure the business will continue and boost local employment.
