Hepatitis C in Irish haemophilia population ‘eradicated’

It's been announced that surviving haemophilia patients who were infected with Hepatitis C, through contaminated blood products, are now clear of the virus.

240 haemophilia patients contracted Hepatitis C through blood products between the 1970s and 1991.

It's reported that the HSE's National Hepatitis C Treatment Programme has had a 90 percent success rate for those who have completed their treatment.

CEO of the Irish Haemophilia Society Brian O'Mahony, says more than 100 of their members were offered treatment under the programme this year.
