The Health Minister says he would welcome the addition of more families' cases into the review of maternity services at Galway's Portiuncula Hospital.
The review was ordered by Saolta Group – which runs the facility in Ballinasloe – following the deaths of two babies and the oxygen deprivation suffered by five more.
In an interview in the Irish Independent, Galway couple Warren and Lorraine Reilly – who lost babies Asha and Amber in the hospital in 2008 and 2010 – asked to meet Leo Varadkar.
The minister says he would be open to their cases being heard by the review.
“There are a number of reviews underway already – people who contacted the helpline on foot of Portlaoise are having their cases reviewed”.
“I'm very open, of course, to additional families being included in the Portiuncula review – but we don't want to make things fragmented by having two or three reviews into the same cases” he added.
