Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin is accusing Leo Varadkar of 'cynically' leaking the memo to The Irish Times in a bid to appear 'tough'.

Deputy Martin says the minister has presided over the failure of the health service to reduce the number of patients on trolleys – and is now trying to pass the blame.

Minister Leo Varadkar says he was not behind the leak.

“Well I didn't – yesterday I wanted the news to be about the 3 billion euro investment in health that's going to happen over the next six years” he said.

“Whoever leaked that e-mail obviously didn't have my interests at heart”.

“But it's pretty evident that Martin Wall has a very good source somewhere in health and I'm sure you can guys can ask him where he got it from”.

“I'd love to know myself” he added.
