Overcrowding in hospitals serving Premier

Over 300 patients are without a bed at hospitals across the country today.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation 44 of these are in hospitals serving the Premier County.

South Tipp General in Clonmel has a total of 29 – 12 of these are on trolleys around the Emergency Department with another 17 in overflow areas of wards.

At University Hospital Limerick – which provides Emergency Department cover for North Tipp – there are 15 patients without a bed.

University Hospital Galway is the most overcrowded today – frontline staff there are coping with 51 people on trolleys and chairs.
