Family members and supporters of Harry Gleeson, who has received the first ever posthumous pardon from the State, have travelled to Dublin for the ceremony which takes place at the Department of Justice.
Harry was wrongly hanged in 1941 for the murder of New Inn woman Mary “Moll” McCarthy…on foot of a submission from the Innocence Project Ireland and the Justice for Harry Gleeson Group, the Attorney General directed that the case be reviewed and the conviction was deemed unsafe.
Harry's nephew Tom Gleeson, along with his sisters will be officially presented with the pardon by Frances Fitzgerald today…
Some family members have criticised the event, saying the pardon is in the name of Harry Gleeson, when Harry's legal name was Henry.
However, speaking on Tipp Today this morning, Sean Delaney from the Justice for Harry Gleeson group says that doesn't matter.
