Grid-West underground proposals to be revealed.

Eirgrid will release details today of an alternative for the Grid West electricity project which links Roscommon to Mayo.

A proposal has already been put forward for a pylon network as an overground option on the Grid West project which would cost almost a quarter of a billion euro.

Both underground and overground schemes will be examined by an independent panel which the government set up earlier this year in response to public concern over plans for the national grid.

The Gridlink Project – which connects Cork with Kildare via Wexford – has drawn strong opposition in Tipperary as two of the overground routes being considered pass through the Golden Vale.

Eirgrid are still going through the submissions from local groups in Tipperary and along the GridLink route before coming up with proposals for an underground alternative to pylons.
