Government discussing Apple tax ruling

Fine Gael's clear it has to be appealed, and Housing and Planning Minister Simon Coveney says Apple used taxation law effectively.

But Independent Ministers are unsure about an appeal.

Those in the Independent Alliance met this morning and have yet to make their position clear, though they've suggested an early recall of the Dáil, but that's not finding favour in Fine Gael.

Independent Katherine Zappone is clear that such a decision can't be rushed, while Taoiseach Enda Kenny gave a strong hint that Ministers do not need to reach a decision at today's meeting.

While an appeal doesn't have to be lodged for over two months, the problem is that no decision will make the Government look weak, and only strengthen calls for a recall of the Dáil.
