Gleeson family laud pardon as historic

President Michael D Higgins has signed the pardon for the New Inn native who was wrongly hanged for the murder of Mary 'Moll' McCarthy in Marlhill in 1941. 

Gleeson was pardoned after an independent review found that there were 'deficiencies' in his conviction.

On foot of a submission from the Innocence Project Ireland and the Justice for Harry Gleeson Group, the Attorney General directed that the case be reviewed and the conviction was deemed unsafe.
