The 21 year-old was beaten to death at a barn in Tullycora, Castleblaney, on the 20th of October 2007.
The arrest came during a major security operation at a farm on the border between Monaghan and Armagh yesterday morning.
The man is being detained at Carrickmacross Garda station.
