25-year-old Peter Conroy from Clondalkin – received serious stab wounds in the attack outside a guesthouse in Palmerstown just before 4am.
He died in hospital a few hours later.
The man in his mid 30s was arrested at the scene and is being held at Ballyfermot Garda Station.
