A man in his late 30s died when the car he was driving hit a tree at Derrydonnelly in Kilcormac at about a quarter past eleven last night.
Gardai say the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a post mortem examination is to be carried out at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
Forensic investigations are continuing today, and the road remains closed.
