Garda Family Liaison Officer outlines how they work with families of crash victims

The task of informing someone that a family member has been killed normally falls to the Garda Family Liaison Officer.

Two families in County Tipperary have had to cope with such a loss this year while 17 people were killed on the county’s roads last year.

As part of Tipp FM's week long road safety campaign Family Liaison Officer Garda Una Kirwan has been outlining how they help guide the family through the whole process from facilitating a visit to the crash scene, talking them through the identification process and dealing with the post mortem.

The F.L.O will also help people prepare for any subsequent court case and the inquest.

Tipp FM's Road Safety Awareness campaign continues this afternoon with Keith Fahy broadcasting live from Roscrea and distributing high-viz vests – while tomorrow morning Aiden Mac will be highlighting the importance of road safety in Carrick on Suir on the Breakfast BLT with Brian and Lorraine
