Fresh bid to ban sulky racing on Tipp roads

It's been a highly contentious issue in the county for many years following incidents of horses being killed or injured, near misses with traffic and animal welfare concerns.

Sinn Fein representative David Doran has long campaigned for a complete ban on sulky racing on public roads.

His proposal has been backed by the Roads Strategic Policy Committee of the local authority as well as the Joint Policing Committee.

However the Environment SPC recently declined to support an outright ban.

Councillor Doran is adamant that the sport has no place on the public roads.
