Former Tipperary County Councillor Pauline Coonan has passed away.

Pauline Coonan was co-opted onto North Tipperary County Council in 1999 when her husband Noel was elected to the Seanad for Fine Gael

In 2004 she retained her seat on the County Council when she topped the poll in the Templemore electoral area while also being elected to Templemore Town Council.

The Fine Gael representative was re-elected in the 2009 local elections…..she did not contest the 2014 elections due to her battle with cancer. 

A native of Borris-in-Ossory Pauline Coonan was well respected and known for her hard work in the Templemore area.

People from across the political divide have been paying tribute to Pauline with many taking to social media to express their sympathies on her death. 

Sinn Fein County Councillor Seamie Morris said even though they were from different parties they had a lot of respect for each other and that Pauline had a heart of gold while Labour TD Alan Kelly described her as a formidable Councillor who always did her best for her community

She and Noel were also very involved with the Chernobyl Children's Project while she also ran a jewelery store on Main Street in Templemore.

Pauline Coonan be laid to rest on Thursday.
