Former Tipperary based teacher awaiting sentence for indecent assault.

At Clonmel Circuit Court yesterday evening Henry Moloney was found guilty on 7 charges of indecent assault – an eighth charge was withdrawn by the judge.

Henry Moloney sat impassively in court yesterday evening showing no outward emotion as jury of seven men and five women returned unanimous guilty verdicts.

A few rows back the victim and his wife wept and hugged each other.

During the week long trial the injured party told the court that the abuse began within a week or two of the start of a new school year at Rockwell College in the 1980's after Father Moloney, as he was known then, asked him to join the choir.

The 77 year old was the choirmaster and the music teacher and the first assault took place in the organ gallery but then continued in the former priest's room at the Tipperary secondary school where the victim said it “got worse” “to the point you would call it rape, buggery.

He said he knew it was wrong but thought he couldn't tell anyone as they wouldn't believe him over a priest.

An eighth charge against Moloney that he indecently assaulted the boy near his home during a Saint Stephen's Day visit, was withdrawn by Judge Tom Teehan.

Moloney – with an address at Kimmage Manor in Dublin – was remanded on bail following yesterday evening's guilty verdicts and is due for sentence on December 15th following the preparation of a victim impact report.
