Richard Burke from Clonmel alleges he was wrongly depicted as a paedophile in the 2011 Prime Time Investigates: Mission to Prey programme on May 23rd 2011.
Representing Mr. Burke, Jack Fitzgerald Senior Counsel told the High Court yesterday the 66-year-old had an intimate relationship with Dolores Atwood – who featured in the programme – but not when she was underage.
RTÉ denies defamation.
Irish Times reporter Mary Carolan is following the case, and says Richard Burke may give evidence later.
“Mr Fitzgerald is continuing his opening part of the action, also alleges that discussions about the Prime Time programme on Front Line and on Morning Ireland compounded the defamation” she said.
“They jury are going to be given transcripts of those…and Mr Burke may give evidence at a later stage today” she added.
