Eugene Sheehy – who was in charge of the bank between 2005 and 2009 – told the inquiry he was sorry and knew that a lot of people were let down.
He says what happened the bank under his tenure as the group chief executive is a matter of eternal regret and sorrow.
And under questioning he admitted he could have stopped the bank becoming so reliant on construction and development.
