Fianna Fail try to block Aer Lingus vote

Fianna Fáil's putting forward a motion calling for the suspension of the debate and vote, until a confidential report prepared for the airline by NYRAS can be examined.

The report sets out cost-reduction strategies – but Aer Lingus claims that the report is a cost-base comparison, and has nothing to do with IAG.

The approval of the Dáil is legally required before the shares can be sold in a deal worth €335 million.

But Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Transport Timmy Dooley says they will not be giving their support to the deal

Meanwhile the Chief Executive of Aer Lingus has moved to reassure the Labour Party about job concerns at the airline.

Steven Kavanagh wrote to Labour Junior Minister Ged Nash last night – stating that the airline has a strong preference to use direct labour wherever this can be done “effectively and efficiently”.

And he said it's their clear preference to avoid compulsory redundancies.
