Late last month Tipperary County Council granted permission to Fethard GAA club to expand their facilities in the medieval town.

Conditional approval was given for a new two-storey clubhouse facility comprising of 2 changing rooms with showers & toilet facilities, a medical room and associated site works.

In a separate planning application the club had also been granted permission for an all weather playing pitch and surrounding fence as well as for six 10 metre high floodlighting poles.

Concerns about both developments have been taken to the state planning appeals board.

The club – which has won the Tipp senior football championships on 21 occasions – will now have to wait for An Bord Pleanala to issue a ruling on the plans.

This is due mid-September.
