Fears over future of GP services in West Tipp village.

The doctor currently based in Bansha is due to retire in the New Year; however no expressions of interest in taking up the practise have been received, despite the deadline passing last week.

The loss of the Rural Practice Allowance is being blamed for the lack of interest in a new doctor taking over the patients with fears locally that people will have to travel to Tipperary town to visit a GP.

A public meeting is set to be held on the issue this Friday night – organiser Andrew O'Halloran says it's a disgrace that the allowance has been stopped.

Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry says he's had discussions with the HSE to try and save the GP service in the village.
