Boston Scientific respond to job fears

It's claimed the company is seeking voluntary redundancies from its full time staff in an effort to reduce manufacturing costs.

Boston Scientifics’ Clonmel facility manufactures pacemakers and implantable defibrillators for the global market.

The company, based on the Cashel road, employs over 900 workers and previously announced a €26 million investment in Research and Development.

However, local Sinn Fein representatives say the company is now seeking 60 voluntary redundancies from full time workers and if that target is not achieved, up to 120 temporary flexi-workers could be let go.

In a statement to Tipp FM this evening, Boston Scientific has rejected the claims.

However, it has confirmed that it's seeking to reduce staffing numbers through a voluntary early retirement scheme for up to 60 positions.

A spokesperson added the programme is in response to normal product transitions and efficiencies.
