It's understood the blaze took hold at her home in Union Hall in West Cork just after eight o'clock.
A number of units from Skibbereen and Clonakilty attended the scene however the woman in her 50's lost her life.
The scene has been sealed off to allow for a forensic examination.
Gardaí say they do not believe the circumstances to be suspicious.
