EU Ministers meet to discuss Iraq

Downing Street has already indicated it would be prepared to help Kurdish forces fighting Islamic extremists in the north of the country.

Now Philip Hammond has confirmed the UK will 'consider favourably' any request for supplies of arms.

“We're already shipping ammunition and supplies from other eastern European countries into Irbil – but this is an opportunity for member states to get together, to compare notes, to coordinate our activity, and send a very clear signal of our support to the new Prime Minister designate” he said.
