EPA issue report on water supplies

The latest report from the Evironmental Protection Agency shows that several schemes in the Premier County are below standards…

The EPA report shows that more than 803,000 people are drawing their drinking water from 119 plants considered to be at risk of failing to meet quality standards.

This is up by 21,000 people since the end of 2015.

Householders in the Fethard and Burncourt areas have been under a partial boil notice for several years…across three water supply’s…over 5 thousand 700 people are under restrictions.

Work on new treatment plants and upgrading of services is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

In Carrick on Suir, people on the Crotty's Lake supply have also been singled out for inadequate treatment for Cryptosporidium…with the Environmental Protection Agency saying that an upgrade of the treatment plant is needed.

Work is also needed on water supplies in Poulavanogue in Clonmel and Graige while the EPA has also singled out Mullenbawn on the Remedial Action List as needing further investigation as the supply had failed to meet E.Coli standards.
