End of an era as long standing Mid Tipp store shuts

O’Dwyer’s in Boherlahan was opened in 1945 by Kitty Ryan and was subsequently taken over by her son Eddie O'Dwyer and his wife Helen.

They have been a key part of the local community down through the generations selling everything from a needle to an anchor and served people across Mid Tipp.

Speaking on Tipp Today Helen O'Dwyer told Fran Curry it’s a very sad day saying goodbye to people particularly the children from the nearby school with whom they had a great rapport. Helen added that they hoped it could be sold as an ongoing business as it is very successful but they have been unable to do so at this point but possibly in the future and added she and Eddie were looking forward to retirement
