It comes after their Prime Minister David Cameron said that Britain will take in 20-thousand refugees but that they would not sign up to an EU quota system – where refugees would be shared out across the European Union.
Here at home, Tánaiste Joan Burton says a figure of 5-thousand refugees for Ireland is 'in the mix' and that people would enter Ireland under a refugee programme rather than through the Direct Provision system.

Jerry O'Connor from the Immigrant Council of Ireland says this is welcome news but more emphasis needs to be put on what happens once people arrive on our shores.
