Delegation of Premier’s principals address Oireachtas

A delegation of Tipperary principals has addressed the oireachtas on matters relating to the negative effects on teaching principals health.

Currently, almost 3 out of every 5 primary school principals across the country are teaching principals, while nine out of ten in the same vocation have had their health compromised in some manner.

According to the delegation, the increased level of administrative burden that has been placed on teaching principals in recent years has led to 84% of all teaching principals to consider leaving their jobs.

Tipperary’s, Noirin Ni Mhaoldhomhnaigh, was one of those representing the National Principals’ Forum at the oireachtas, she feels that minimum of one day’s release time a week is absolutely necessary for teaching principals
