The issue was raised at this weeks meeting of Tipperary County Council where it was pointed out that businesses would be hesitant to locate in the Premier County unless fibre broadband was available.
Council officials said it could be another 5 years until there is a proper county-wide service.
Independent County Councillor Jim Ryan says existing businesses in Tipperary are being hampered by the lack of high-speed internet connection.
