Irish Water is being criticised for forcing people to run pipes through their house to connect with newly installed meters in parts of Tipperary Town.

A number of estates including St Patrick's Avenue and St Michael's Avenue in the town have their water mains at the back of the houses.

These were originally installed by the County Council when the houses were being built in some cases over 40 years ago.

Despite this Irish Water have installed water meters at the front of the houses with the onus on the householder to connect to it.

Local Councillor Denis Leahy says expecting people to go to the expense of bringing their water supply to the front of the house is unfair.
