Jason Corbett’s wife has broken down in court while hearing evidence in his murder trial.

The court in North Carolina also heard how the Limerick man was lonely and homesick in the US.

Jason Corbett’s sister Tracey Lynch took the stand – telling the court about the close relationship she had with her brother.

She told the jury that in the 12 months before his death – he spoke about being very homesick – missing his friends – and wanting to move home before his son started secondary school.

Chief correspondent with the Irish Daily Mail Catherine Fegan says Mrs Lynch also spoke about Jason’s first wife – who died following an asthma attack in 2004.

The evidence prompted Molly Martens to shake and sob uncontrollably.

Both she and her father Thomas Martens deny the charge of second degree murder – saying they acted in self defence and claim Mr Corbett had attacked Ms Martens and threatened to kill her.

The trial continues.
