Credit Union survey shows cost of college

A study carried out by the Irish League of Credit Unions has found that 70% of parents have to pay their child’s third level education.

Over 2,000 Tipperary Leaving Cert students who received their results yesterday are due to get their first round CAO offers on Monday.

This year more of them will be living at home and working to put themselves through college.

The former President of the National Parents council Post Primary, Tipperary's Rose Tully, says there are extra costs whether students stay at home or move out.

She has also called for students to be taught more about the cost of going to college.

The survey also shows that almost two-thirds of parents get into debt to cover the expense.
