County prepares for landfall of Storm Frank

Communities along the Atlantic coast and the River Shannon are bracing themselves, with up to 70 millimetres of rain and winds of up to 120 kilometres an hour forecast for the South, West and North West.

Water levels in Lough Derg have risen in the last number of days following heavy rainfall, while the River Suir is also increasing. 

Four weather warnings are in effect from 11 o'clock this morning.

The N65 Portumna/Borrisokane road on the Carrigahorig side of Portumna is still closed due to flooding and there are fears that the road at Portumna Bridge may have to close…

In South Tipperary, the N24 in Clonmel is flooded between the Bulmers factory and the Kilheffernan Roundabout…while the road is passable; drivers are being warned to reduce their speed. 

Also in Clonmel, the Convent Road is closed due to flood levels while the local authority has also closed the Old Bridge. 

Kilsheelan Bridge in the village is also flooded and is impassable.
