Tipperary county councillors have unanimously voted to go against the town's local area plan to allow the project at the Old Temperance Hall, seek full planning.
The site is in an area zoned for public and recreational use only but this development was deemed to be in keeping with proper planning and sustainable development in Roscrea.
The vote to materially contravene the town's local area plan was before the council which is sitting in Clonmel today.
Senior council planner Sonya Reidy says the local authority “sees it as an improvement to Roscrea Town Centre, it reduces vacancy rates, conserves a protected structure and brings jobs and new uses to the town so we see it as ticking every box really.”
Speaking to Tipp FM Site owner Damien Munroe has welcomed the decision by the county council stating he “knows a material contravention is a big thing/ a major change to a county development plan” and “appreciates all the work put in to get it to this point” He added that he was also conscience of the level of work ahead to be carried out on the hall while also being sensitive to the history of it. He added that there was “still someway to go before they will be actually brewing beer”.
