Coty urged to outline plans for P&G in Nenagh

The long established North Tipp plant formed part of the 12 billion dollar deal which sees P&G's beauty products sold off.

Workers at Procter and Gamble were told about the sale at a meeting of all staff at the Gortlandroe plant yesterday afternoon.

Coty will take over such well known brand names as Covergirl, Max Factor, Wella and P&G's fragrance business.

The €12 billion sale will be completed by the end of next year.

North Tipp TD Michael Lowry says the workers need reassurance that the plant forms part of Coty's long term plans. He has been in contact with Coty to press home to them the need to continue production in North Tipperary.

Staff will remain as Procter & Gamble employees until the end of 2016 following which they will transfer to Coty who have agreed to maintain their terms and conditions for a further two years.

However local Sinn Fein Councillor Seamie Morris says workers are fearful that they may lose out on their years of service.

Procter and Gamble have been in Nenagh for nearly 40 years – Councillor Morris claims the lack of job creation in North Tipp in recent years means the Gortlandroe facility is even more vital to the area.
