Cashel boxing coach in court over drug find

Peter Whelan and his neighbour Raymond Farrell are both facing drugs charges while Mr Whelan also charged with illegal possession of a shotgun

During last night's hearing at Nenagh District Court, Gardaí gave evidence of arresting Peter Whelan of Boytonrath, Boreen, Kileenasteena, New Inn at Tipp Town Garda Station on Saturday night

When charged and cautioned the father of one made no reply – he's facing two charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent of sale or supply.

The 49 year old, who the court heard runs the local boxing club in Cashel, is also facing a third charge over an illegally held shotgun.

Detective Sergeant John Keane objected to bail on several grounds including a possible flight risk.

The court then heard evidence of the arrest of 51 year old Raymond Farrell, also of Boytonrath – when charged and cautioned at Cahir Garda Station he replied “no comment” to two counts of drug possession and possession for sale or supply

No bail application was made for the 51 year old and Judge Gerard Furlong remanded both men in custody to appear before Clonmel District a Court next Tuesday.
