Carrick Councillor highly critical of Municipal District

Councillor Kieran Bourke made the unexpected announcement at the local council's monthly meeting in the Town Hall last evening.

The Independent representative says he had believed that as Leas Cathaoirleach he could achieve things and that work could be done but unfortunately that was not the case.

He said he had made representations on a number of issues that had cropped up in Carrick on Suir recently including problems with debris and rubbish at the marina in the town due to a lack of maintenance by the local authority.

He was told at the June meeting of the council that it would be cleared shortly but nothing was done.

The lack of promised safety measures on the N24 at the Pill Road has also angered Councillor Bourke who points out that the area is extremely busy with a number of schools in the locality.

He has also highlighted the fact that grass and weeds are growing on the footpaths on the Main Street.

Due to the inaction Councillor Bourke felt he was wasting his time as Vice Chair of the District and has stepped down from the position claiming that Municipal Districts are just not working. He says the former Carrick on Suir Town Council was a much more effective way of getting work done in the town.
