Cameron to meet EU counterparts

David Cameron will join European leaders later for the first summit since the UK voted to leave the EU.

The UK Prime Minister will discuss the implications of the vote at the meeting in Brussels.

Yesterday German, French and Italian leaders said negotiations couldn't begin yet because of the delay in triggering the exit clause.

The British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn hopes Mr Cameron will say when the talks can begin.

All 28 EU leaders are meeting for the first time since the UK voted to leave the EU today.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will join UK Prime Minister David Cameron and 26 other heads of state and government in Brussels for a two-day summit later today.

The fallout from last week's Brexit result is a top priority on the agenda; however the UK is not expected to formally start proceedings on withdrawing from the union.

A consensus among EU states is that the UK should trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty as soon as possible in order for negotiations on a future relationship outside the EU to begin.
