Calls for review of building regulations to be clearer

Tipperary's Alan Kelly is looking into the possibility of relaxing the rules of certification and the use of architects and engineers due to huge costs they are loading on one off house builds.

They were introduced in the wake of some substandard mass developments during the boom but have been described as “using a sledgehammer to crack a nut”.

However Independent Councillor Willie Kennedy says with no decision date given – it will stall building projects in Tipp at a time when they should be booming.
