Call for solar farms to have significant community involvement

The call came as the local authority prepares submissions for inclusion in the government's “Ireland 2040 – Plan” which will replace the National Spatial Strategy.

Currently most of Tipperary's wind farm developments are owned by overseas investors or pension funds and councillors don’t want to see this repeated when the solar farms industry takes off.

Fianna Fail Councillor John Hogan says the local authority needs to be proactive on this.
