An additional charge of €2 per week used to be placed on the tenants rent which at the end of the year would be used by the council to service the boilers – however this scheme is being discontinued from January.
The move was strongly criticised by public representatives at the Municipal District meeting who wanted the scheme extended to the rest of the county.
Sinn Fein Councillor David Dunne says it's wrong to abolish a scheme that works, just because it's not being done all over the county.
