Cabinet to discuss medical card issue.

The Taoiseach says people with serious illnesses were left in a “very difficult position” by the removal of discretionary medical cards.

Enda Kenny was speaking ahead of this morning's Cabinet meeting – during which the Health Minister will bring a number of options to restore thousands of the cards which were taken away.

Department of Health sources say an administrative option is the most likely – which could see services restored in a matter of weeks rather than months.

Enda Kenny says the matter will be discussed in detail – he says a number of people with serious illnesses were affected by the medical card review.
