Lough Ree was the busiest life station and overall 1,400 people were rescued by the RNLI which is urging people to think ahead and never underestimate the power of the sea and inland waters.

There was a 10 percent increase in the number of people brought to safety by RNLI crews.

Part of the reason was the great summer weather, which caused more people to go to beaches and lakes, and out on pleasure craft.
