Bruton insists Gov will tackle South Tipp overcrowding

The Government insist they're working to address the overcrowding crisis at South Tipp General.

Minister Richard Bruton came under fire in the Dáil this afternoon during Leader's Questions over the health budget from Tipperary's Mattie McGrath.

A number of solutions South Tipp General have been suggested, including the provision of a modular hospital and additional staff.

Taking Leader's Questions, Minister Bruton said the HSE's Winter Initiative is targeted at easing the pressure at the Clonmel hospital.

But Deputy Mattie McGrath says the HSE is not fit for purpose and increasing the budget is not going to fix the problems in the system.

Meanwhile, the number of patients waiting for a bed at hospitals serving Tipperary has fallen over the last 24 hours.

However there are still over 60 people being cared for on trolleys or in overflow areas of wards today.

43 of these are at University Hospital Limerick while South Tipp General in Clonmel has 18 patients in need of a bed on a ward.

Nationally there are 313 people on trolleys or chairs – down 80 from yesterday.
