Berkeley balcony collapse survivor addresses California assembly

One of the survivors of the Berkeley balcony collapse is putting pressure on American authorities to change their building laws.

22-year-old Aoife Beary gave emotional testimony at a State Assembly hearing in California yesterday, calling for greater transparency in the construction industry.

Her mother also spoke to the Committee, which televises its proceedings.

The Berkeley balcony, which collapsed last summer killing 6 students, had been built by a firm which paid out multi-millions for defects that were never made public.

Aoife Beary, who's been left with life-long injuries, talked about her personal loss at the hearing and asked authorities to take action.
