Aurora Borealis light up Tipperary skies

A stunning light display – with pink, purple and green colours – has lit up the sky in Ireland and around the world following a severe geomagnetic solar storm.

The natural phenomenon the Northern Lights – also known as the Aurora Borealis – were visible last night in parts of Tipperary and the South.

It was also spotted in parts of Co Donegal.

The light show occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with earth's magnetic field.
