Schools in Tipperary, which have been approved for building works, are set to undergo an audit.

The announcement has been made by the Department of Education, that all schools undertaking building works, will be randomly inspected, to ensure that proper procedure is being followed by contractors.

Tipperary Minister of State Alan Kelly, said the news should be welcomed, and says it has come about as a result of concerns he raised concerning a building project at a Tipp school in recent months.

He says the purpose of the audits is to ensure that unscrupulous contractors and subcontractors are dealt with.
