An investigation is underway after a pipe bomb was found outside a house in Brownstown in County Kildare last night.
The army bomb disposal team was called to the scene just before 11 o'clock where they discovered a viable improvised explosive device.
A cordon and road closures were put in place and a number of houses had to be evacuated.
The device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion and it was taken away for further examination.
The scene was declared safe just after midnight.
