Appeal for info on Belfast bomb attack

A serving prison officer is currently undergoing surgery after being seriously injured in the blast – in the Hillsborough Drive area – of the city.

The 52-year-old has served as a prison officer for 28 years and is a married father, of adult daughters.

It's understood the bomb was placed under his van and detonated a short distance from his home as he drove to work.

Officers are appealing for information about the attack.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has condemned the attack.

Charlie Flanagan's described the incident as callous and cowardly.

While Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers says she utterly condemns this “vicious attack”.
