The emergency department of South Tipp General Hospital is extreemly busy today with 20 people waiting on trolleys for a bed.
The Health Service Executive say that recent days have led to a surge in patients presenting for treatment to the Clonmel health facility – they are appealing to the public not to attend the hospital unless it's an emergency.
Management at the hospital say that they are making every effort to accommodate patients as quickly as possible and staff are working to minimise the inconvenience caused by the delays in being admitted to a bed.
Elsewhere, at the University Hospital in Limerick, which covers North Tipperary, staff are also under severe pressure with 29 people waiting on trolleys and chairs.
